You may not be familiar with the name-brand Kaz, but they develop and market products under a variety of labels such as Vicks, Braun, and Honeywell.

Employees: 600

Locations: North America, South America, Europe and Asia

ERP System: Oracle

ECM System: SharePoint powered with ShareVis

Why ShareVis: Kaz needed a way to track and control business processes from complex engineering procedures to day-to-day operational tasks. One of the most daunting challenges they faced was implementing a complicated engineering change request (ECR) process. Kaz tried to build a solution using Oracle ERP, but found that it was not flexible enough to meet their need for frequent changes and options that could branch to sub-options.

Detailed Story…

Automated Tooling Systems, Inc. (ATS) provides custom designed, built, and installed manufacturing systems to leading companies around the world. ATS has delivered more than 10,000 systems to manufacturers in industries including electronics, telecommunications, healthcare, solar energy, automotive, and consumer products.

Employees: 2400

Locations: North America, Europe and Asia

ERP System: Oracle SAP/ JD Edwards

ECM System: SharePoint powered with ShareVis

Why ShareVis: Managing an expanding organization and providing a platform for Enterprise Document Management and Collaborating, SharePoint was a natural fit. The single weakness of SharePoint was in the area of Forms and Advanced Workflow. Many internal processes were slow and lacked sufficient control to keep projects moving and on schedule. ATS management sought to increase efficiency and shorten response times in these critical business processes. ShareVis was tasked with the job of assisting ATS to implement flexible business process improvement initiatives on SharePoint in a timely manner.

SharePoint is a collection of software products from Microsoft used to enhance collaboration, process management, search and document management-related functions. Users interact with SharePoint through a Web browser. Data in SharePoint is contained in lists, which may be a library of revision-controlled documents, a series of assigned tasks, a calendar with appointments, contacts or a project plan. SharePoint is tightly integrated with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook, providing users with a very simple and intuitive way to manage their data with products they use daily.

SharePoint is the fasted-growing server product in the history of Microsoft and the second-fastest growing product ever (next to Windows 95). The SharePoint business unit is a $1-billion business unit for Microsoft. Microsoft's publicly stated goal is to have every user of Microsoft Office, over 500 million people, be users of SharePoint as well.

See SharePoint Server Demos...

Collaboration

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 helps your organization get more done by providing a platform for sharing information and working together in teams, communities, and people-driven processes. Office SharePoint Server is an important part of the overall Microsoft collaboration vision and integrates with other collaborative products to offer a comprehensive infrastructure for working with others.

Empower Teams Through Collaborative Workspaces
Microsoft delivers a best-of-breed collaborative infrastructure that gives end users the tools to easily create their own workspaces and share assets across teams, departments, and organizations while maintaining IT control.

Connect Organizations Through Portals
Microsoft will help bring the full insight and data of the organization to the right people at the right time by making it easier to connect people with line-of-business data, experts, and business processes across the organization.

Enable Communities with Social Computing Tools
Microsoft gives organizations the tools to deliver a broad set of social computing capabilities within their existing workspace and portal infrastructure, so end users can more easily harness the collective intelligence of the organization.

Reduce Cost and Complexity for IT by Using an Integrated Infrastructure, Existing Investments, and an Extensible Architectural Platform
The Microsoft collaboration infrastructure leverages existing investments, is extensible, and interoperates with other systems, so organizations can maintain a lower cost of ownership and more easily meet business demands by building a single infrastructure.

Winshuttle

Winshuttle is a document and forms workflow add-on for Microsoft SharePoint (both WSS and MOSS). Winshuttle runs completely on top of SharePoint and allows users to participate in complex document and forms-based workflows. Using the Winshuttle Designer, process owners (not IT professionals or programmers) can easily create workflows to automate complex business processes. Winshuttle uses a Visio-like flowchart designer consisting of swim lanes, activities and transitions.

Complex forms can be designed using Microsoft InfoPath. While Winshuttle uses InfoPath for the design of the form, once published, licenses of InfoPath or Microsoft Forms Server are not needed. The process participants simply need a Web browser to view and interact with the forms and the underlying workflow.
