Inconel Superalloy Now Available for Metal X 3D Printer

Markforged, a composite and metal 3D printer provider sold by Adaptive Corp. has announced that nickel-based superalloy Inconel 625 is now compatible with its Metal X.

The superalloy is able to retain high strength at elevated temperatures (up to 1000°C) and is often applied in chemical, offshore, and aerospace industries.

With this new capability, Markforged is aiming at reducing the cost to access Inconel 625 and expand its applications while delivering lead times that are competitive with other methods of manufacturing.

Inconel 625 is great for areas where there are high temps, corrosive environments and rapid temperature changes.

The availability of Inconel 625 brings unique benefits to several industries:

  • Chemical/power processing: a need for materials able to handle high temperatures and a wide variety of chemicals. Waste-processing systems require materials resistance to oxidizing and reducing acid solutions.
  • Aerospace/automotive: the ability to withstand high temperatures in engines and corrosive environments,
  • Seawater/offshore: seawater is by its nature highly corrosive and will destroy even the strongest materials. Inconel 625 demonstrates high resistance to sodium chloride at a variety of temperatures. It is perfect for wire rope and propeller blades used in underwater applications.
