True-Load for analyzing linear loads
Engineering for linear stress — such as in vehicles or construction equipment — is challenging. Dynamic structural loading is arguably the most important piece of the analysis puzzle, but options for creating a CAE-driven digital workflow to analyze real-world loads have been limited.
After years of research, Dr. Tim Hunter, P.E. developed a software tool for accurately calculating real-world structural loads for linear motion. The first iteration of the software allowed a globally known transportation company to reduce physical prototyping turns from six to one for each product or variation. Today this software is True-Load from Wolf Star Technologies. Adaptive Corp. is proud to offer True-Load to our engineering clients. We install and support True-Load for both Dassault Systemès and MSC Software CAE environments.
How True-Load works
True-Load is designed to calculate loads for linear system. It works by following a virtuous looping principle that states loads are proportional to displacements; displacements are proportional to strains; and strains are proportional to loads. In years of testing and in regular use at many companies, True-Load successfully calculates the real-world linear data required to test load development in your FEA software.
True-Load gives your engineering team the following capabilities:
- Transform any structure into its own load transducer;
- Bring proven algorithms for load development into the digital workflow;
- Identify the optimal strain gauge locations for an FE model;
- Correlate an FE model to test data at digital speeds with high accuracy;
- Reduce or eliminate assumptions;
- Reduce or eliminate the need for expensive physical testing equipment;
- Understand why some loads can be detrimental to the final design.
One early adopter turned to True-Load after struggling for years with finding the right loading recipe to replicate failure within their simulation software. This small engine manufacturer tested True-Load, and found it captured the right combination of loads to reproduce the primary failure point. The team went on to confirm True-Load also accurately predicted a secondary failure location where they had also experienced failures.
True-Load offers a proven process to reduce the time, complexity, and costs related to acquiring test data and easily translating it into the appropriate FEA and fatigue analysis software inputs. It brings an engineering challenge into the digital workflow, saving time and reducing the need for expensive physical testing equipment and multiple physical prototypes.
